Practical provocation in workshop sessions at D&T show 2009
At the D&T show DTEP continued the input into workshops that has become a hallmark for many of the team involved. DTEP were delighted to be asked to, by organisers and had a fantastic three days sharing new ideas and practice with visitors. Pleasingly, many of those attending workshops were trainees and NQTs who had an intensive hands-on practical with Nick, Allen and Mark leading the sessions. All the sessions were packed with many, even sitting on the floor to take part!
Main focus last year was on electronics, control and robotics with all those attending taking back kits and resources and a few new ideas. Thanks to all those who came along, all those who helped with resources and especial thanks to the D&T show organisers and Bob Booth for making it happen. We look forward to seeing you all at the 2010 show (18-20th November).

BETT-Olympia 2010
The team works closely with many educational suppliers including BLi Education at the BETT show at Olympia last January. Inset, you can see Mark keen to re-introduce exciting pneumatics and control back into the curriculum. Er.. bagpipes and robotics. Absolutely brilliant!
GADGET SHOW LIVE 2010
The team also ran a great experience for parents and pupils at the Gadget Show Live. Around 400 children and a few adults took part, ‘building and racing’ their own slot cars at the show. Our thanks to Steve at AEC and SCX for providing the car parts and CTR Future for the laser cut parts.

MACH 2010
The big one – DTEP took on its biggest challenge to date with a great opportunity for education to meet industry. If you wanted to get your students to experience as many different modern manufacturing processes, materials and applications as possible: then the best place to be last summer was the NEC Birmingham.
With the support of the MTA and many of its member companies collaborating too, DTEP was able to foster a new kind of engineering experience. Over 300 students studying the new Diploma and BTEC had a whole day VIP tour of the show. A number of D&T suppliers exhibited too in our Education and Training zone thanks again to the MTA
Groups of 7-10 diploma students were led by apprentices ‘loaned’ by Renishaw PLC for the whole week. An amazing array of ‘mini’ industrial experiences throughout the day was also supplemented by many other hi-tech attractions. These included visits to Bloodhound SSC, the virtual engineering experience on-board the AMRC (MANTRA) vehicle. With a host of F1 cars, superbikes, virtual bobsleigh and even a gliding experience students had an amazing day. Guest speakers to students included Richard Noble of Bloodhound and Thrust SCC fame.
